This increasingly rare 2006 Fender Japan MG-65 is a faithful reissue of the 1965 Mustang in Dakota Red, built to the short-scale offset specifications players expect from that era. It has a 24" scale maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard and a slim C-style profile, giving comfortable fretting and a slightly thicker low-end compared with full-scale guitars. The slab-body Mustang shape and chrome hardware reproduce the period look.
Electronics consist of two single-coil Mustang pickups with independent on/off switches and phase switching, providing everything from bright, chimey single-pickup tones to snappy out-of-phase quack. The guitar uses a vintage-style synchronized tremolo and a simple fixed bridge plate typical of Mustang reissues, delivering the classic trem feel and stable intonation. Overall it’s a compact, versatile offset with authentic 1965 appointments and Japanese build consistency.
